Crumpl for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Getting started

• iPhone and iPad: open Crumpl and tap Choose PDFs, or share a PDF to Crumpl from any app.
• Mac: drag PDFs onto the window, or right-click a file in Finder › Quick Actions › Compress PDF.
• Pick a preset — Print, Balanced, or Smallest — or tick Target a file size and name the size you need.
• Compress. You will see the original size, the new size, and the percentage saved for each file.
• Save a copy, or replace the original if you have turned that on.

Common questions

It says “Already optimized” and did not change my file

That is a success, not an error. Some PDFs — particularly ones that have already been through a compressor — have nothing left to give. Rather than hand you a copy that is no smaller, or one that is quietly damaged, Crumpl returns the original and tells you.

My file only shrank a little

How much a PDF can give back depends almost entirely on what is inside it. Scanned documents and photo-heavy files typically drop 40–90%. A short, text-only PDF may have very little to remove. If you need to hit a specific number, use Target a file size rather than a preset.

Where did my compressed file go?

Wherever you chose to save it. Save a Copy is the default and nothing is overwritten unless you explicitly turn on Replace Original in Settings.

Can I compress a whole folder at once?

Yes. Select multiple files, or drag a batch onto the Mac window. Crumpl shows a running total of what you saved across the batch, and you can set whether a batch continues past a file that fails.

Does Crumpl work offline?

Always, because it never worked any other way. The app has no network permission, so an internet connection changes nothing about how it behaves.

Can I use it in Shortcuts?

Yes — Crumpl provides a Shortcuts action on both iOS and macOS, so you can build compression into your own automations.

Is my document sent anywhere?

No. See the privacy policy for the full detail, but the short version is that the app requests no networking entitlement and opens no connections.

Reporting a bug

Email support@crumpl.net. It helps to include:

• Your device and OS version (for example, iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 26.1, or MacBook Air on macOS 26)
• The Crumpl version number, from Settings
• The preset or target size you used
• What you expected, and what happened instead

Please do not attach a document containing anything confidential. If a specific file is misbehaving, describe it instead — roughly how many pages, whether it is a scan or born-digital, and its size before and after.
